Unicorn Investors is primarily focused on young companies with strong teams, proprietary technology, and big markets. We invest up to $500K CAD. We review companies from all regions of Canada and the United States.
We are always looking to add new members to our team. Unicorn Investors members are Accredited Investors who are successful current/past executives, business owners and professionals. If you have an interest in startups and want to make a difference we would love to hear from you.
We build long-term relationships with founders, and focus on long-term goals of the company rather than fast returns.
Our angels are experienced with SaaS, Fintech, AI, Food-tech, AR/VR, Blockchain, Hardware, and much more.
On average we contribute our investment within 10 business days after due diligence.
40% of our angels are woman. 50%+ of our angels were born outside of Canada.
Since 2017 we've grown into a group of 20+ accredited, successful high-technology members. All are founders and/or executives interested in mentoring and investing
The majority of our investments make it to their next round of funding, with multiple IPO and exits.
Besides money, we invest our time to grow with the startups. We bring access to member insights, customers, channels, service providers, and other connections startups need.
Unicorn Investors is primarily focused on seed-stage, high-tech companies. We typically invest in companies that have a developed product that is in alpha/beta stage, or delivering revenue. In most cases the company will have significant customer relationships.
We look for large and growing markets, well-defined problems, disruptive solutions, defensible technology, clear go-to-market plans, and strong teams that have a demonstrated ability to execute.
If your startup fits the above, we want to hear from you.
Most of the deal-related work, including our entire deal screening process and our due diligence work, is managed and performed by our members. Day-to-day operations are run by a small staff. Unicorn Investors is funded through memberships fees and partnership agreements.
Unicorn Investors members make independent investment decisions, and UI does not provide investment advice to members. UI investments are the aggregate of individual member funding commitments. UI does not operate a fund, share in the profit of member investments, or charge presenting companies any fees.
Membership in Unicorn Investors is open to Accredited Investors who are interested in being active in the investment process and who want to invest their own money into start-ups and diversify their portfolio. Members pay an initiation fee, annual dues, and make annual investments that exceed a required minimum amount.
Unicorn Investors encourages interested, qualified members to attend several meetings to understand our process and culture, and meet current investor and Board Directors. Prospective members are assigned to a member of our Membership Committee to assist them through the process and answer any questions they may have.
Membership in Unicorn Investors is not suitable for everyone. Our membership process is designed to ensure that expectations are discussed and understood by both the prospective member and Unicorn Investors. If there is mutual interest, one-on-one interviews are conducted prior to the prospective member's nomination to the Board of Directors for membership approval.
Please note that unlike many angel groups, we do not admit prospective members whose overriding interest is in offering services to presenting start-up companies.
Unicorn Investors members benefit from deal flow, diverse expertise, shared due diligence, and collective mindshare.
Membership in our angel group allows members to aggregate their individual investments, and enables each member to create a more diversified portfolio than they could on their own.
Unicorn Investors is typically able to negotiate information and pro-rata follow-on investment rights, and often invests enough money to negotiate being a board member or board observer at our Portfolio Companies.
Deals are evaluated on multiple criteria, including quality of management, market opportunity, product concept, competition, go-to-market plan, financial projections, the investment’s potential returns and whether the deal fits the investment objectives of our membership.
You may be contacted at this point if the committee has questions. A deal lead is assigned to you at this time to guide you through the process.
Our check size is typically between $100K to $500K.
